This policy covers Unspool websites, apps, and services for parents, guardians, students, and household users. The parent or guardian who creates the household account is responsible for authorizing student use.
We collect parent or guardian account details such as name, email address, password credentials, household setup choices, sign-in/session information, billing status, support messages, and administrative settings needed to operate the account.
Parents may add student names, usernames, grade or learning level, subjects, lesson progress, answers, rewards, and avatar choices. Students use Unspool inside the parent-controlled household account.
When a parent or student requests a generated lesson, Unspool may use the topic, prompt, subject, student learning context, and existing lesson structure to create lesson content. Live lesson text generation may use an AI model provider. Lesson images, audio, and video-support features may use specialized providers when enabled.
We store completed lesson activity, math practice results, reward activity, custom-lesson requests, and parent activity of finished and stuck work so families can see what students did. Unspool does not currently offer a parent calendar, attendance tracker, weekly planner, or reports screen.
Card payments are processed by Stripe. We store billing status, trial status, plan, and subscription state. We do not store full card numbers. Stripe may process payment details to start the plan you choose after the trial, charge renewals, and prevent fraud. We do not ask parents to put card numbers into lesson prompts, student answers, or support messages.
We use information to provide accounts, authenticate users, show lessons, generate and save learning materials, record progress, show parent activity, respond to support requests, manage billing, debug errors, prevent abuse, improve reliability, and comply with legal obligations.
Unspool records first-party lesson analytics in our own database to understand lesson starts, completions, module progress, video starts, practice summaries, and activity use. These analytics are internal product-measurement events and are not a parent-facing attendance record.
We do not sell student personal information. We do not use student work for third-party advertising. We do not serve targeted ads to children. We do not make a child account the owner of a household account.
We use service providers for hosting, database/storage, authentication, email, support, security, AI lesson generation, lesson images, lesson audio, video metadata or embeddings, and billing. They may process information only as needed to provide services to Unspool and must protect it appropriately.
We use cookies, session storage, and similar technologies for sign-in, account security, product functionality, preferences, reliability, and internal measurement. We do not use them to sell student data or target advertising to children.
We use authentication, authorization, access controls, database-backed permissions, operational safeguards, and provider contracts to protect household information. No online service can guarantee perfect security. Parents should use a strong password and keep parent account access private.
We keep account, student, lesson, billing, and record information while the account is active or as needed to provide the service, preserve homeschool records selected by parents, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain reliable backups.
Parents can ask to access, correct, export, or delete account and student information by contacting Unspool. Before deleting an account, parents should save any records needed for homeschool files because deletion may remove lessons, progress, and activity.
Depending on where a parent lives and whether legal thresholds apply, parents may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, or limit certain uses of personal information. We will not discriminate against a parent for exercising privacy rights.
Unspool is designed for parent-led household use. If a school, district, umbrella school, charter program, co-op, or vendor relationship uses Unspool, additional FERPA, student-privacy, contracting, or state-law obligations may apply and should be handled in a separate written agreement.
We may update this policy as Unspool changes or legal requirements change. If a material change affects existing families, we will give notice in the product, by email, or through another reasonable method.
Parents can ask to access, correct, export, or delete account and student information, or raise a child-data question, at hello@unspool.net. You can also use the contact form. Save any homeschool records you need before you ask us to delete an account. Deletion may remove lessons, progress, and activity.
